Fall is here! Though in ATL that may still mean we’re in for 80+ degree days. No matter the temp, with fall comes the urge to re-analyze and refresh my wardrobe. Inspired by the lovely Caroline of Un-Fancy and Lee the Style Bee, I’m embarking on the 10X10 style challenge as a way to hone my personal style. I’ve been feeling in a bit of a rut lately, with the cliche closet full of nothing to wear. I think my tastes have been evolving over the past year but my wardrobe hasn’t quite caught up. Narrowing down my choices was surprisingly easy as I realized I don’t actually love a lot of my wardrobe anymore. Here are the 10 items that made the cut:
- too many button-downs A significant portion of my tops wardrobe is made up of button downs. Naturally, I was considering some of them for my 10×10, but I realized that for me, they aren’t actually that versatile. Don’t get me wrong, I still love a good button-down, I just don’t really like layering them under jackets/vests/sweaters – the collar and sleeves create too much bulk. I’m not a big fan of pairing them with skirts, either. Really the only way I wear them is half-tucked with skinny jeans. Not nearly mixable enough for a 10×10.
- too many skinny jeans I love my skinny jeans and they aren’t going anywhere. BUT when planning for this challenge, it hit me that I only own one pair of pants that’s NOT a skinny jean.
- not enough layering tops I realized why I love my two favorite tops so much – they have the same not-quite-cropped, oh-so-slightly-boxy fit. None of my other tops fit this way, and I realized it is my favorite for layering and for the way it looks with different bottom options.
